KEITH PROCTORS ART BLOG

DOWN HILL RACER : Original oil 20" x 20" available direct , keithproctor@live.co.uk
There is a lot of paint on this one , i recently started using super heavy gesso which is basically a thick white primer used to prepare the canvas before painting , i apply it with a pallet knife , let it dry and then coloured the surface blue and green before painting .
To paint the snow i used Titanium white mixed with Turquoise and a large flat brush , snow changes colour throughout the day reflecting the colour of the sky and it looked Turquoise, the red sledge is the opposite of green and the blue of his wellies is the opposite to the orange of his hands , happy with this :)

KEITH PROCTOR ORIGINAL PAINTINGS

Close Encounter / Original oil  24" x 24"
This is a recent original oil painting , i did a few preparatory sketches first which i don't normally do , i think it did help, a while ago i completed a similar painting to this but though i would try again , i wanted a little more dry brush , a little more warmth and very loose brush strokes so had to be confident and quick , "looks simple" but effective i hope ,  i am pleased with it , never totally happy though , i think that's what keeps most "Artists / Painters" going .
It is for sale and available direct :  please email keithproctor@live.co.uk for details .

KEITH PROCTORS ART BLOG

Watching you ,watching me  .....  Oil on canvas 40" x 30"    Sold
The large painting shown above was completed a few months ago , it was one of a number i did of Jack and Ted along with some of Rubie , Lily or Sadie and Ted  , i have put Ted to bed so to speak "for now anyway" , one thing about Ted is he doesn't  grow any older , i mean in size , obviously he is getting on a little but he isn't getting any bigger so he will always be there to paint "as is" , so i can go back and paint Ted any time i like .
Jack is now seven and has out grown the little "Jack the lad" look , i feel quite sad to have left that little fella behind but at the same time i am very proud to see him growing up into the lovely little boy he is , i have his black engine drivers hat hanging on the wall in the studio and it looks very lonely indeed .
I still have a massive amount of photos of him from when he was around 4 years old so i will use them as reference material for some time yet , i have recently done about 10 paintings of him age seven , they are of him fishing and generally messing about on the river , most of them are set in the early evening with the sun setting behind him which gives a nice reflection in the water and a silhouette appearance to Jack , ( i will post one on here soon )  i am pleased with them and will be doing a few more.
I have 11 exhibitions planned before Christmas starting with Glasgow on the 29th September so will post the details on here soon .

Ring of bright water - New ltd Edition
Ring of bright water
This painting depicts a little boy standing ankle deep in a puddle of clear water , he probably still has his shoes on and there are probably no fish in there to catch but that will not deter him, as far as he is concerned its full of fish and he's going to catch them no matter how long it takes !.
The title of this painting is from the 1969 film Ring of bright water , a little bit dated now but still a wonderful touching story about a man and his pet otter , i went to the pictures to see this film when i was a boy and the images have stuck with me . I think this painting has a connection to the film somehow but will let you figure that one out for your self !

My little black book

Alfie Baboon Butt

I am sitting looking at the last months paintings hanging on the studio walls, overall i am pleased with them , when i paint , i start and finish and thats that , i have learned the hard way not to go back to them and mess around, its a bit like your signature, if you signed your name then went back over it to correct it a little , no matter how careful you are "only you" would be able to notice that it wasn't normal.
I have started to paint Alfie, our little Jackhuahua pup in to some of the paintings , he has what i call a "baboons butt" ( see photo ) , his tail sticks up to much, it kind of goes up and towards his head , it is proving difficult as he is normally facing in to the picture !, its a good job he only has a little Chihuahua Butt , i think i will have to drop his tail down now and again. Three of the paintings shown above are newly published Limited Editions available rom your local Castle Galleries. Here are two links to a couple of videos that people unknown to me made recently showing my paintings on Youtube i was well chuffed Video 1 .......  Video 2  ... Note about making comments : In the past when people write a comment ( see below ) it used to show straight away but i just noticed tonight that i have about 20 unread comments waiting for me to ok them , this surprised me as they normally show instantly as i say , anyway some are just people advertising there own businesses so i deleted them and have published the rest , so i would like to thank some of those who kindly left a comment a while back and i never replied ,  Breenster from Whylam hope you enjoy the painting / James Whitehurst Artist / Maggie B from Yorkshire / Rahina Artist / Senna : ) / Stephanie Moule / Diana Marshall Artist / Bonnie Heather / Lowrisian Artist and Sarah from Milton Keynes.

KEITH PROCTOR FINE ART PAINTINGS

You cant hurry love

If we go , We go together

"Busy Body"  ( Sadie)
We have a new puppy , he's a "Jackihuahua" ( Jack Russell Cross Chihuahua ) , there's more Jack Russell in him than Chihuahua i would say as theres a lot of biting and shaking going on , he has no fear, we were concerned about him falling of the settee but he just launches of and lands head first on the wooden floor quite happily, he runs around in circles as fast as he can falling over his own feet at the same time , so funny!, We have called him "Alfie" after my friends Parrot !! . We have spent the last few days playing Scalextrics, pool and Air hockey with Jack , enjoying the break , i hope you are too , Happy New Year .

KEITH PROCTOR FINE ART , PAINTINGS

Two oil paintings (1) "See ya , wouldn't wanna be ya"  and "What will be will Bee"
Well all the shows are done , the last one was Norwich and was a very busy show to end on, i really enjoyed doing them, the time flew over, thanks to those people who came along to have a natter , i met some lovely people including the superb staff of Castle Galleries,  i took my wife "Deb"and  Jack to some of the shows up North and  Jack wants to do it all over again .
The paintings shown above were painted a while back, normally i paint every day (except Sundays) and i am happy with the work i have been producing but recently i have tried to add a little more interest to the paintings, by that i mean the texture and finish , not the subject, every once in a while this happens to me , the need for change arrives and i make a mess of everything , i sulk and obsess a while, then go back to normal so Deb tells me !.

Anyway i have made a right mess of the floor in the studio, wasted a lot of canvas paint and time, produced six experimental! paintings that are fit for the bin, infact if westill had the chickens i know what i would do with them !! not that i am in to abusing chickens :-) , i shall frisbee them for the Dog instead.
On the subject of Chickens , we used to have quite a few but as we live in rural area Mr "Fox" grew quite fond of them , we ended up with one, "he was a large white cockrell called George, he became vicious and started to attack Jack everytime he went out side to play , he would only go for Jack and no one else ! i think it must have been the fact that Jack was closer to George in size and the bird seen him as competition so we had to get rid of him.

"Andrew" the "Goat" was a different matter , we got him when he was only months old, still cute and cuddly but he grew into a raging monster in no time at all and had a shoot to kill attitide when ever he seen my wife "Deb", he was as heavy as three labradors and had 15 inch "straight" hornes. He loved me and i think he was jealous of Deb, i used to take him for walks in the woods but as soon as i let him off the lead he would charge her at speed , "Very Dangerous" !  and he wouldnt give up, he used to head but the patio doors "actually smashing them"  to get at her in the house,  it was a sight to see ! , we would be sitting in the front room and he would be trying to remove the back kitchen door with his head .
Anyway he almost killed Mick ( our pointer Dog ! ) after head butting him so he had to go too .
Hopefully i will get some work done tomorrow ... bye for now .
